Updated: Mar 9, 2019

According to Psychology Today fragrance can both affect and have an impact on your mood.

Not only do scents affect your mood but it can reduce stress, enhance sleep and even promote self-esteem and confidence.

All fragrances depend on your mood as your mood affects your body’s PH balance, for example, your sense of smell is at its peak when you are in a good mood, but when you’re in a bad mood, the effects of stress inhibit your sense of smell.

Scents can be seen as essential to our memories and feelings, as aromas can help you remember certain emotions or events in your life. They sometimes trigger certain memories which provide pleasure to us and some scents can make us remember something we wish we could forget.

Particular fragrances have more of a significance to us as it is linked to someone or something that has meaning in our lives, some fragrances even help us to recall information, studies suggest that a certain smell could evoke thoughts of someone better than looking a photograph of them.

Fragrance does not only have an impact on our mental health but it can also have effects on our physical health. There are certain scents that are used for stress relief, headaches and migraines, these scents are:

· Lavender: one of the most popular scents used today. It can effectively calm and soothe the mind as well as the body. It is mostly used in treatments for sleeping disorders and insomnia.

· Pine: best known for decreasing anxiety and lowering stress levels. The fragrance is best known for pleasant nostalgia, as it results in the same feeling of relaxation and calmness.
